Even the closest disciples to Jesus during His ministry did not fully comprehend what was unfolding in front of them. However, despite walking with the incarnated Lord, they did not yet have access to the Holy Spirit, who was poured out at Pentecost. When a woman poured out an alabaster box of fragrant oil on Jesus the disciples complained that such a valuable resource was being wasted. Jesus thought otherwise! Her act was immortalized in the Word of God, and we are still hearing about it today. It is critical for all of us to adopt a posture of humility and ask the Lord if there are any areas where we are out of alignment with His character, will, vision, and purposes. Jesus help us to see and to correct any areas where we have been off so that we can make the most of the precious time that you have given us for the glory of your name and of your eternal kingdom!

And when Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil, and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table. But when His disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? For this fragrant oil might have been sold for much and given to the poor.”

But when Jesus was aware of it, He said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for Me. For you have the poor with you always, but Me you do not have always. For in pouring this fragrant oil on My body, she did it for My burial. Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.”
