Before Jesus was betrayed in the garden Peter – and the rest of the disciples – proclaimed that they would follow Jesus through any trial. Many have talked a good game for a long time only to find themselves without the resources they need in crisis. In these times perhaps we are noticing that we are not all that we thought we were. How have our relationships fared? Have we dedicated ourselves completely to fasting and prayer? Have we lived up to the ideal we have set for ourselves? Likely not… We have all fallen short of the glory of God, but there is a grace that comes from God when we cry out. There is a song that the Lord will place in our hearts when we draw near. There is a faith that enters our lives when we trust in Jesus. Now is the time to acknowledge our failures and to fling ourselves on the feet of the Lord. He will be victorious through this trial, and his faithfulness, righteousness, and mercies know no end!
So Peter went out and wept bitterly.
