In any relationship there are tumultuous periods. In those periods we important choices to make. Should we come closer or withdraw? Should we push through or give up? Should we aim for a solution or declare things irreconcilable? While these questions are complicated in many of our relationships with other people, with the Lord there is only one answer: draw nearer. The Word of God recounts many situations where those who God has called and favored grow angry with the Lord (Job, David, Moses, etc.). Many times when we go through suffering or pain can even become furious. The Lord desires our honesty so that He will use these circumstances to show us where we need to be transformed and to bring healing into our lives. A fantastic example of this dynamic is the entire book of Habakkuk.
O Lord, how long shall I cry,
And You will not hear?
Even cry out to You, “Violence!”
And You will not save.
Why do You show me iniquity,
And cause me to see trouble?
For plundering and violence are before me;
There is strife, and contention arises.
Therefore the law is powerless,
And justice never goes forth.
For the wicked surround the righteous;
Therefore perverse judgment proceeds.
